ACFL Division 5 – Ballymore v Caulry
The second of Ballymore’s Division 5 matches saw them take on Caulry
at home last Saturday evening. It proved to be a tight battle with both
sides trying to cope with the strong breeze. The first half saw the home
team get on top early with 2 quick points one from open play by Stephen
Rooney and the second from an Alan Slevin Free. Caulry for their part
were not to be out done and scored 2 points them selves resulting from
a combination of poor handling and misplaced passes from the Ballymore
team. The match came alive when Ballymore broke forward and the ball found
its way to Mike Slevin who in turn found the back of the net and continued
his good form in front of goal. The last action of the first half saw
Caulry score a point from play which was matched by another Alan Slevin
point. At the break the Home side had a slight lead of 1-3 to 0-3. The
second half continued a chess like manner with both sides swapping points.
First Alan Slevin scored another Free and then added a point before Caulry
scored 2 points themselves in quick succession. Dave Hannon then stepped
up for Ballymore and scored 3 points from play but again Caulry came back
with 2 points themselves. This entertaining game stepped up another gear
as Ballymore’s Dermott Farrell scored good point from play and then
Alan Slevin added to his personal tally with a superbly taken goal coming
off the back of a break from their area and good work by Ballymore’s
Frank Eivers. Caulry could only manage one more point themselves and the
match closed out with a score line of Ballymore 2-9 Caulry 0-10.

Ballymore off to a flyer!
ACFL Division 5 – Ballymore v Tyrellspass
Last Saturday saw the Ballymore team play their first match of the 2011
season. The game which was originally due to be played in Tyrellspass
was switched due to a water logged pitch. The team have been training
well under new trainer Gerry Walker and it was hoped that the season would
get off to a winning start. In dry but blustery conditions Ballymore wasted
no time in getting on the score sheet as Derek ‘Ching’ Molloy
score a point from open play to cancel out a Tyrellspass point and then
added to this with a well taken free. From then on it was all one way
traffic as Ballymore stamped their authority on the match. Two quick goals
from Mike Slevin resulting from good link work from Frank Eivers pushed
the home team ahead. This was quickly followed by two points from Daly
McCormack making his come and one from John Gilligan who had just replaced
Liam Gilligan who was suffering from concussion after two heavy blows.
The half closed as it had begun with Ching adding to his personal tally
with another point from play. At the break Ballymore were well on top
2-6 to 0-6. The second half carried on in the same manner as Ching first
scored a good point and them calmly beat the Tyrellspass keeper to raise
the green flag and give Ballymore a third goal. Tyrellspass tried hard
to get back into the match but a needless red card did nothing to help
their cause. Three further points from Daly McCormack a fourth goal from
David Slevin and a final point from Mike Slevin round the game off and
gave Ballymore a comfortable win and a great start to their campaign.
The final score line read 4-12 to 0-10. Team: Conor McNeil, Andy Slevin,
Denis Eivers, Seamus Keena, Declan Rooney, Brian Finnerty, Ciaran Finnerty,
Liam Gilligan, Sam Whooley, Frank Eivers, Derek Molloy, Mike Slevin, Alan
Slevin, Daly McCormack and Barry McDermott. Subs used John Gilligan for
Liam Gilligan, Bobby McDermott for Alan Slevin, Paddy Harrington for John
Gilligan and David Slevin for Frank Eivers.
